2016 Media Awards Summary-

Firstly, My best video was Abdullas thrift shop, followed by Exposure and My City. I found these my favourite as they have all grab my attention due to the themes behind it.

The reason why Thrift Shop was my favourite was due to the editing on it. The way the camera was spinning was almost if you were hypnotised into the screen. The amount of movement and different scenery kept me interested as it was all edited in one.

Exposure was filmed in a great way with different views of angles of the gun which made the hitman look very dominant. The black and white gave it a old school effect which was kinda scary and the fact that the character with the gun had no emotion on his face gave it more of a serious thriller.

My city seemed abit like fast and furious with the way the city was out and the sports car. I found it interesting how the camera angle focused on the car driving proper fast. The fact that it switched to the gas metre gave it more of a racing type of movie which grabbed my attention even more.

Extension Task-
1- Choose from two extracts from different eras (e.g. one from the 1940s and one from 1990s) and analyse the cinematography
what are the key differences?

From the first extract we can see that the major difference is the colour. The first one is in black and white whilst the second is in colour. The first one uses more medium or close up shots due to the quality of the cameras back then. However the second does the same but in more of an advanced way. This shown when the character looks straight into the computer and can see the reflection of his face upon it. The first one uses different areas whereas the second is based in one room. There is a difference in the way the clips have been filmed due to the intensity of the scene compared to the more relaxed.

Part 2 -

This film still taken from James bond is a medium close up shot focused in the mean determined loom of the character. It has an effect as we can we see what the character is doing with hands and yet see the close look on his facial expressions.

This film still includes an over the shoulder angle. We can see this as we see the back of one character yet the front of the opposing one. it gives an effect as it only wants to show focus on one character who is probably the main.

This shot on Liam Neeson is a clsoe up shot mainly focusing on the eyes and the battle scars of the character all over his face. It has an effect as it shows what he has been through yet still has the eyes of a fighter and that he is not weakened yet.

This 1st person shot of a war movie brings you into life. It makes you feel like you are the character so it makes the scene more intense as it is a war scene. It puts you in the shoes of the actor.

Sound Work

The sound bridges in this scene are very evident as it may even seem like it's not there, an example of this is when the protagonist running after the criminal then the camera cuts onto another subject you could notice the sound bridge. The diagetic sound has a captivating effect that is attention grabbing as there is a discussion that is taking place. The glass smashing and the people fighting has a domestic effect that allows the audience to be attracted to the fight. The non-diagetic sound is just as attention-grabbing as the diagetic sound as it has a dramatic effects.

Comparison

Jasmit's Video
Jasmit used interesting instrumentals. There were many different areas inside the video and the use of different instrumentals suited the whole video.

Abdullah's Video
There is an creative example of contrapuntal music as the use of the instrumental was intriguing. The star wars was also good as the tone of the instrumental had a connection with the overall video. He has also used a good example for the parallel sound as the music was relevant with the overall purpose of the video clip.

Kendra's Video
The audience wants to know what is going to happen. This video has a warmth that captivates the audience. It had an effect that captivated our attention as there were many enigma codes.

Everyone had an pleasant overview of the whole video as the video showed different use of Media techniques.

Extension Lighting- Film Noir Lighting

The low-key lighting is used to create a  harsh contrast between the light and dark lighting. This is also called the chiaroscuro effect. This is effective as in the background the lighting of the silhouette is magnified and more prominent as it covers up the identity of the antagonisthe blind effect emphasises the light and shadow. This leaves a detective sort of feel which links to film noir. It also foreshadows a tragic or scary event. The fact that the edges are gloomy means that everything is closing in on the character who is strapped up to the chair. The light on the victims face shows the fear and anxiety of what is to come.
Again here we see low-key lighting being used which is very common in Film Noir scenes. The lighting focuses on the soon to be victims face, leaving this deadly shadow of the antagonist holding a knife behind her back. Back lighting is used here in order to create this dark figure which gives you the chills looking at it due to the fact a murder is prone to happen.

Task 3- The man who fell to earth

Question 1- What do we learn about the character from the way he relates to his environment?
From this glimpse of the movie, it is obvious to see the main character had no understanding of what he was around and it all seemed a bit puzzling. The facial expressions give it off completely that he is feeling this sort of way. The clothing on him rubs off a scary impression on him but in more of a mysterious way. Whether this is associated with death we do not know but throughout the scene it is clear to see how repentant he is so death could be an answer to that. Also the near danger around him could represent karma or that something isn't going that right for him. The ending action shows the character begins to become comfortable with his new surroundings.

Question 2- What expectations do we have of the genre and narrative of the film?
The major expectation this glimpse gives off is that it is clearly a sci-fi film due to the rare chance of someone falling to earth. However the new surroundings means it is a whole new world for the character and to gain confidence he will need to have an understanding and this is where an adventurous side kicks in.

Extension Task-   1-
Get Rich or Die Tryin

From this glimpse of an image, the main props involved is a gun. Clearly we can see this is an action/crime film. The costume is a black jacket with a grey hoodie which suggest he is thick layered. This means he is expecting damage done to his body so he is prepared. The leather gloves means that something illegal is going on as he is not trying to get traced, especially with the fact there is one hand out and one hand pointing the gun. The facial expression is screwed with one eye brow up suggesting anger in his eyes and that he wants something done for him otherwise something bad will kick off. Judging by the background, this robbery could be somewhere quiet or illegal so it is unnoticed.

Film Post Analysis

Harrison Ford ; Blade Runner-
The imagery of this movie already suggests it is more of a sci fi/action movie due to the futuristic elements such as the advanced weaponry and flying cars.
The movie revolves around one person 'Harrison Ford' as his name is the title of the show. This highlights that he already has an established fan base.
The lighting between the two characters suggests that one of the characters (the male) is the antagonist and the female which is in the dark is the antagonist (the villain)
Due to the fact it is a sci-fi movie, the target audience would be between 15 year olds to 30.

Scary movie 2-
From what i can infer, there is a hybrid of genres such as comedy and horror. Due to the theory of iconography, the font suggests that the movie has a comedic feel with a horror touch. This is because of the bold letters and the font. I think this film could be about a group of people mimicking previous horror movies with a sense of comedy. I believe that the audience target should roughly be around 15-30. The main caption "Absolutely hilarious" suggests already it is a comedy. The hybrid of comedy and horror of old movies  suggests it is a parody.

Uzak-
From what i can see the imagery is very dull as it only involve dark colours as if it is in black and white. This suggests the movie must be a classic movie only premiered in world cinemas. The scenery seems as if it is going through an industrial time as it is very cloudy and smoke is rising in the background. The fact that there is snow laid across the floor suggests this movie is set in the winter period and that it has a cold feel to it which could result in death or loss. The fact that it mentions 'Grand pix cannes 2003' shows this is a great movie as it was entered for a prestigious award. This will attract more viewers. The font is in mainly in Purple or Blue which represents royalty so it could be a character that's really wealthy who gets him self staring at the city. The change of language at the top left shows that Uzak is clearly a foreign language film. Due to this fact and the dull colours of the poster, I believe the target audience would be around 25-50 as it is something older people would watch. I believe from what i can see that the genre for this film could be action.

Im not scared-
This movie poster stands out bold due to a mixture of darkness at the bottom and light at the top. The way the boy is looking down a whole shows interest and this means it is most likely an adventurous movie. I believe this is also a foreign language film but a more modern one due to the contrast of colours and translation of the title underneath. The title seems to flame inside it which represents danger and therefore this mean this movie could be about a boy whose curiosity leads him to a hazard. The quotes are yellow which means that it can not be a horror although there is darkness at the bottom. I believe this movie could be targeting an audience of 12-20

Sin city-
Already the way the font is boldly laid out in capital letters and red shows this must be a horror. However the 5 characters in the background are all holding a gun and this means it could also be a hybrid of horror and action. The rain falling in the poster and the darkness probably could result in vampires as that is what they are associated with. Also the title Sin city shows it must be about something evil because that is what sinning is. Evil is associated with hell and this is why vampires could be the right fit.The way the characters are holding their weapons shows whatever they are killing are getting finished off so they are probably getting hunt down. The effect of having a big star in the centre of the poster will attract a lot of viewers as Bruce Willis already has an established fan base. I believe the target audience is 18+

Pirates and Caribbean-
This movie is already a series so the three characters at front gives away what movie it is. I believe this movie genre is action due to the pistol being held by the first character on the left. The ship in the middle and the old school gun shows this movie has something to do with pirates but the darkness of the poster shows there must be something evil in hand. Pirates are already thought to be bad but the beauty of the lady on the far right contradicts this as she looks really nice and innocent. Jhonny depp is a really well known actor and most movies he is involved in he brings a comedic side to the movie. This could mean there will be one or two comedy scenes in the movie due to the actor him self. Pirates are also known as being adventurous so this movie could involve that too. I believe the target could be anyone between 12 to 30.

Bride and Prejudice-
Judging by the caption at the top, this movie seems to be a comedy with romance due to the couple right at the front of the picture. The colour scheme is really bright and this therefore means there is happiness behind it, especially because everyone is smiling in it. There seems to be a clash of two cultures as the life side is american and the right side is indian and this could have something to do with why there is prejudice involved. Font is in bright yellow which represents happiness and joy so there is nothing but good vibes in this poster and celebration. I believe the target for this would be anyone above 12.
Million Dollar Baby-
This poster seems to be sporty due to the attire of the main character but the darkness behind it shows she must face some consequences or upsets along the way. The two men on both sides of her shoulder show one could be an angel and one could be a demon trying to lure her in one path. This little mysterious side of horror comes from the fact that the surnames of the main actors are in red. I believe this could be a sporty film with some action. However it is most likely a 15 due to the darkness behind the poster and characters. A lot of money could be involved due to the title so this could reveal whether the sport is for passion or money.
